Wig Care Guide
Wig Care Guide
With proper care, your LuxeLocks NYC wig will stay beautiful for months. Follow this guide to keep it looking its best.
Washing Your Wig
- Detangle first — Use a wide-tooth comb or wig brush to gently remove tangles, starting from the ends and working up toward the roots.
- Prepare cool water — Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water. Never use hot water — it damages synthetic fibers.
- Add wig shampoo — Use a sulfate-free wig shampoo. Gently swirl the wig in the water. Do not rub or twist.
- Soak — Let the wig soak for 5–10 minutes.
- Rinse — Rinse thoroughly with cool water until all shampoo is removed.
- Condition — Apply wig conditioner from mid-length to ends, avoiding the cap and roots. Leave for 5 minutes, then rinse.
Drying Your Wig
- Gently blot with a towel — do not wring or twist.
- Place the wig on a wig stand to air dry at room temperature.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources while drying.
- Do not brush when wet — wait until completely dry.
Heat Styling
- Our wigs are heat-friendly up to 350°F (175°C).
- Always use low to medium heat settings to preserve the fibers.
- Apply a heat protectant spray before any heat styling.
- Avoid repeated high-heat exposure — it shortens the wig's lifespan.
Storage
- Store on a wig stand to maintain shape and prevent tangling.
- Keep away from dust and direct sunlight.
- For travel, turn the wig inside out and store in a silk or satin bag.
How Often to Wash
- Every 8–12 wears for regular everyday use
- Every 6–8 wears if you use styling products
- Immediately if the wig becomes soiled or develops an odor
What to Avoid
- Hot water — damages synthetic fibers permanently
- Regular hair products — always use wig-specific shampoo and conditioner
- Brushing when wet — causes shedding and frizz
- Sleeping in your wig — causes tangling and matting at the nape
- Excessive high heat — even heat-friendly fibers have limits
